Traditional schools do a terrible job preparing kids for adulthood. The real world doesn’t revolve around cramming for tests, or memorizing random geographic facts.
Instead, it’s built on creative problem solving, self-direction, ownership, adaptivity, and discipline. It rewards people who can identify a problem and figure out the solution, independent of others – even if no one has ever done it before.
The change in schooling approaches in recent years has proved this. We have lots of successful models to choose from: unschooling, online schools, Montessori schools, microschools, and hybrid schools.
But rather than proclaiming one style of education is superior, we realize that every child is different, and needs a school that adapts to them, rather than the other way around.
